New Year's Goals: Almost Making It
over 6 years ago – Fri, Dec 29, 2017 at 08:29:00 AM

Hello, everyone and Happy New Year!

I told you I'd have two things for the New Year, and we aren't going to fully make it with both. What's not going to be quite ready is the revamped website. We know it's important and we're a little embarrassed having things like the anthology submission on such a basic page. However, after talking to consultants, we just can't afford someone else to create the website right now. So Chris has been relearning modern web coding (he already makes e-books so it's not a stretch). He hopes to have the Atthis Arts website up by New Year or close to it, with E.D.E. Bell to follow soon after. I believe in Chris - they will be great. When they are fully online, we'll let you know - and have some surprises to go with it.

What is going forward in all its glory on the first is the campaign for the new series. I hope you're excited! I sure am. We are launching the Kickstarter campaign on New Year's Day. In recognition of our international backers, we'll launch it once we get up on the 31st. Which means we might not quite make midnight in New Zealand, but we should be online for Australia. At least part of it. : ) We won't start sharing it on social media until January in Michigan, so that will give the Kickstarter backers most of a day if you'd like to show your support early. Which I would appreciate. You know, so it looks like I have friends. I'll send you a note when it's online.

So, there are a couple more topics:

1) Quitting the job. Literally, I have been saying I'm quitting my career for so long I suspect no one believes me. Look, our Ohio house sale didn't go well, and I had a move to pay for, extensive home repairs, a new water heater, and two sets of braces. And I don't even think I paid for all that yet. Uh-oh! Adversity just makes me more determined! And this interim period has proven even more strongly to me (reference weak website) that we aren't going to be successful if we aren't able to more fully dedicate our time. So my current plan is to be out of work sometime in February. So if you like what I do as a writer or what we do as a publisher and/or believe in the potential for either, there is no better time for your support. That doesn't just mean orders; you've always been there for me on that. But it also means sharing links and spreading the word. Recommending the trilogy to people. Stopping by my table at events. All the little things. They really add up. And - as always - thank you.

2) As Told by Things. You saw we're running an anthology, right? With a fun and quirky theme, too: inanimate objects telling their stories. Submissions are open through January, same as the new Kickstarter. If you know any authors, please do send them the link at atthisarts.com/projects/as-told-by-things/. I'm very hopeful for this and want to make sure the word is getting out. You know we make lovely books, so now we need some amazing submissions. I believe in that also.

Happy New Year to you and best wishes for 2018 - ♥ E

Hello again! (I’ve been scheming.)
over 6 years ago – Thu, Oct 26, 2017 at 08:51:41 PM

Hello, friends and supporters. (Thanks for being both.) I wanted to check in and let you know what I’ve been up to. First of all, if you aren’t keeping track, my family as well as Atthis Arts have moved to Detroit. We miss Dayton a lot (*waves*), but we love it here! After a quite busy summer, I’ve finally been able to get back to my next project and have been working on it every night. (I’m still working my day job for now. You know, bills.) So here’s the plan.

2017 was a year of massive change for us, and I’m feeling the positive superstition of the New Year. So, on New Year’s Day, I’m going to do two things: 1) Launch the new E.D.E. Bell and Atthis Arts websites—new, improved and a successful short story to go with it. 2) Launch a Kickstarter for my big new writing project. New world, new characters, new themes. Like a good engineer, I've applied all the lessons learned from past endeavors. I’m really hoping you’ll love it.

And here’s what else I’ve been working. In the next week or so, I’m going to release a submissions call for our first anthology. This is not a side project—I am taking this very seriously. I am excited about the theme and the tone and hope you will be too. So stay tuned, and follow Atthis Arts, LLC or E.D.E. Bell on Facebook or Twitter (@atthisarts, @edebellauthor) for updates.

In the meantime, reviews for the Shkode trilogy are really helpful on Amazon and Goodreads. I’d be so grateful if you’d take the time. And thank you!

Thanks again for all your support. Hoping to bring you so much more in 2018. - ♥ E

Books are shipping tomorrow. : D
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 09:31:12 PM

Hello, everyone - I was so honored to see the unprecedented number of pre-orders from the Kickstarter campaign, Backerkit, Gem City Comic Con, Saint Louis Wizard World, and Motor City Comic Con. You like me! Oh, wow, I am so happy with the finale of the series and I hope you enjoy it. That's the whole goal here. I write a story, and you think it's worthwhile and interesting! Thank you, again and again, for your support.

The hardcovers are all going to ship tomorrow. If you don't receive your book(s) or something isn't right - please let us know. And you should have received your e-books already; again, let me know if you didn't.

Your ratings and reviews are essential! No pressure; even a quick line stating what you liked is appreciated and helps other readers decide whether they might like it or not. I've had several people come back at events after reading your reviews online, so they make a huge difference. You can review The Scattered Bond now on Goodreads (or any of the series) or the first two books on Amazon.

I'm also really excited about my next project. Give me some time - we are moving and everything is chaos at the moment. But it's a complete shift from Shkode and I'm really hoping you'll enjoy it.

Thanks! - ♥ E

E-books are up!
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Jul 19, 2017 at 08:08:29 PM

You can now read the whole Shkode trilogy! This is a big day and I'm so excited to finally share the ending with you. Even though I'm always all blah blah Fettered Flame, there's no question this is the tightest book yet. I am super proud of both the hard work I put into it and the way it turned out! The world is on fire, the characters feel the end approaching, and Mother, well, has probably now had that vessel of wine.

As for us on Earth, things have gone so well that we are solidly ahead of schedule. E-books were just posted; let us know if you didn't receive the link or have any other issues. You'll start reading tonight, right? : D

We hope you'll read the book and review it on Goodreads, and if you're going to read the whole trilogy, we'd love for you to rate and review all three books on Goodreads and Amazon. Reviews are critical to an indie author's ability to get the word out (and also linked to whether Amazon will promote a title or not), and a review can just be as short as one line, letting people know what you liked about the book and/or the series.

Hardcovers have arrived in Ferndale! We'll get them out as soon as I can get my hands on the books (I'm still in Dayton) to sign them. We are confident we can get them shipped by the end of the month. They look beautiful and we hope you'll agree they are worth the wait.

Thanks again for your support! - E

P.S. I haven't made a mistake since earlier this week, but just in case - if you do find any errors in the e-book, please send them our way. Thanks!
